TRILITE Strongly Acidic Cation Exchange Resins (SAC) are synthetic resins, manufactured by introducing sulfonic acid as functional groups of ion exchange into a three-dimensionally crosslinked polymer matrix. SAC can exchange their counter ions in all pH range and even neutral salts (salt splitting capacity). It is also stable in solvents, strong acids, strong bases, and reducing agents.
TRILITE offers not only the styrenic gel type SAC, most widely used in the industries, but also the porous type SAC for specific applications.
The chemical structure of styrenic porous type SAC is identical with the gel type SAC, but it features a large number of pores on the surface of the resins, which results in the larger surface area than that of gel type resins. With these features, it effectively exchanges the cations in the non-polar solutions and highly dense solutions. Also, the porous type resins feature comparably faster reaction rate, higher decolorization rate, more strong to the organic contaminations, and greater mechanical strength for swelling and contraction. On the contrary, the ion exchange capacity is lower than that of Gel type SAC due to more moisture contents of the resins.
The use of gel type resin may offer more economic efficiency for general applications as porous type resins are more costly, involving a more complex manufacturing process. We recommend the use of porous type resin for such applications with harsh conditions (high temperature and high pressure), treatment of non-polar solutions, treatment of highly dense solutions.
